Santorini, Greece

6/7
I've woken up from a delirious state of tired to a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea on a slow speed ferry. The Horns were up at 5 this morning after a late night of packing and enjoying a social media binge since we had free wifi and time to sit. We took the metro to a port and boarded a seven hour ferry. The boat was cruise-like with a coffee bar and fast food restaurant. Tom and I found some empty seats and conked out for the first few hours.

After this trip we would have traveled via: plane, bus, taxi, metro, vaperetto, train, funicular, ferry, and of course much on foot. We've got our hopes up for renting a 4-wheeler in a few days! Needless to say, we'll be glad to go back to driving our cars and living out of a closet rather than a backpack in the next few days.

But before looking forward to home, we're ready to enjoy Santorini!

After a power nap (much needed), we went out on the town of Fira. The whole island is a sea of white homes accented with blue doors, cacti, and pretty pink flowers. We enjoyed a nice sit down dinner. In fact, we ordered the "Mix Meat Plate for Two." For a girl who doesn't usually order such a dish, I really enjoyed it. We split a greek salad, burgers, chicken, lamb, sausage, bacon, bread, and wine for 28 euro. Steal of a deal! #FULL

We started today with an AMERICAN sized breakfast! We both enjoyed a big "filter" coffee in a real size mug. A mug that I can hold with my hand and not simply my pinky. Tom ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and sausage and I enjoyed greek yogurt with fruit and honey. It was delicious and the Greek yogurt is on point.

We needed the stamina, because after breakfast we ventured to the trail and prepared for a 10 KM (6 mile) hike to Oia (a small town across the island of Santorini). The views were gorgeous, at times the hills were steep, and the overall experience was awesome. My camera couldn't stay in the bag for most of the hike because each turn seemed like a kodak moment.

In Oia, Tom and I found a nice little place to cool off and drink cokes. We took off our shoes and literally just sat for over an hour. Afterwards, we walked the town of Oia and had lunch at a stand by the bus station (the choice to bus back was an easy one!).

Dr. Fish was our next stop. Tom and I both had a 15 minute fish foot massage. Basically, you rinse your feet and then soak in a pool of little fish that eat the dead skin cells on your feet/legs. It tickled, but was a lot of fun. After all the walking that we've done, those little fish enjoyed a feast of dead skin cells.

Afterwards, we headed to Moto Mike's where we rented a four-wheeler. The shop is right by our hotel and Mike and his guys are all really nice. They let us choose the price for our daily rental. We drove up to Imerovigli for dinner. Helmets on and wind in our faces, we felt like we had freedom to explore. Tom was a champ driving on the narrow and crowded streets. We enjoyed authentic seafood for dinner. This is probably the most adventurous I've even been with an order as I enjoyed a seafood salad consisting of grilled octopus, shrimp (with heads), mussels, and calamari (squid). Tom had salmon ravioli and a local beer (yellow donkey).

It didn't take long to realize that our ATV wasn't that powerful. A line of cars bunched up behind us as we tried to climb a hill. To solve the problem, Tom and I rolled right on up to Moto Chris and he let us upgrade to a Big Boy ATV for only 10 euro.

This morning we hit up the same wonderful breakfast stop (Yes AMERICAN sized and delicious). Then, we got on the 4-Wheeler and headed to Kamari (a black sand beach). The climate here is dry and reminds us of New Mexico. We passed farms, shops, pedestrians, scooters, and saw all types of terrain. We got to the beach before it was overtaken by tourists and enjoyed a nice beach nap and lay out.

We ventured to the local brewery next. There are three main brews: The red donkey, yellow donkey, and crazy donkey. They even let you taste for free. I kindly let them pour the drinks and discreetly passed them to Tom to finish off, although the Yellow Donkey was not bad. Tom liked the beer and enjoyed having the first Greek IPA (the Crazy Donkey).

Our next plan was to head to the town of Perrisa, but we somehow ended up in the town of Acrotiri instead. This is where the red sand beach is. We hiked around a cliff and then found some open real estate to post up. The beach wasn't our favorite, but we got our share of salt, sun, and people watching.

Our final stop was Perrisa. I honestly could not take in any more rays, so instead of laying out we got Greek frozen yogurt. As we left, Britt attempted to take a selfie from the back of our ATV while Tom navigated us back to our home of Fira like a champ!

4 Wheeler Selfie Coming Soon

We're getting ready to book a taxi and enjoy our last night in Europe. We're so thankful for the time that we've had together, safe travels, and all that we've experienced. We're looking forward to being home where The Lord has placed us!
